DON BOSCO HIGH SCHOOL, Liluah

MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS 2014

“All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” The truth of this statement is exemplified by the sincere support staff of Don Bosco Liluah. It is their diligence and dedication that is traditionally celebrated year after year in the May Day celebrations, by the salesians, teachers and students of DBL.

The celebrations commenced with meaningful prayers for the dear ‘Uncles and Aunties’ in the morning assembly, by the students of Class 12 B, representing the entire student body. These special guests for the day were welcomed in the auditorium with roses and the lighting of the lamp, which marked the beginning of an appropriately solemn and entertaining cultural programme, specially dedicated to our support staff. The Rector, Rev. Fr. Biji’s message highlighted the quiet dedication of these meticulous workers, who clock almost twelve hours’ work a day, that maintains DBL’s magnificent infrastructure, winning accolades year after year. He made a special mention of John Uncle, who leaves us this year, after a lifetime of dedicated service.

The programme was a medley of melodious numbers like ‘Ei Sraban….’and Satyajit Ray’s ‘Katai Rango Dekhi Duniyay…..’, western songs, beat-boxing and rapping. The western dance, with its puns and humorous interpretations left the audience in splits.

Marshall Uncle, representing the support staff, thanked his dear boys and teachers for the reverence shown to them that made them feel cherished.

A physical manifestation of our love and respect for them took the shape of the fans and skybags gifted to them, even as a video stressed their presence all over the hallowed portals of DBL. The principal, Rev. Br. Jose, concluded the programme, proposing the vote of thanks, thanking specially the Class 12 teachers and boys for their organizational prowess in putting together such a meaningful show.
