SPORTS MEET 2015

“Winners win, Winners lose but Winners play”.  With this motto, the Annual Sports Day of the senior section was held on 12 December 2015.  This day is always earmarked as the most awaited day in the school calendar.  This year the Athletic Meet was presided over by Mr. Rajesh Pandey IAS, Secretary, Sports & Youth Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal, as the Chief Guest.

The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest who was escorted by Rev. Fr. Biji Thomas, the Rector, Rev. Fr. Sunit Kiro, the Principal, assisted by the DBL Scouts.  The first event was the colourful Mach Past.  Immaculately attired in their respective house vests, the students marched smartly to the tune of the RPF band led by Mr. Suraj Bahadur Thapa.  After the march past, there was the arrival of the torch followed by the lighting of the flame by the Chief Guest. Amidst the singing of the National Anthem, the School Anthem and the oath taking ceremony, the sports meet was then declared open.

 

 

The welcome address was given by the Rector, who stressed on the need of playing the game in the right sportsman spirit.  A bevy of events, which included the races, jumps, a variety of field events, followed interspersed among these were the more popular events like Tunnel Ball and the most loved Tug-o-War.  The colourful drill display by the students of classes 6 to 8 attracted the attention of one and all.

 

The students also cheered loudly during the teachers event, the past pupils events and the non-teaching staff event. The day came to a close with the prize distribution ceremony. Savio House won the coveted Champions Trophy while Rua House was delighted to take the runner-up trophy.  Vecchi came third followed by Magone.

 

The Chief Guest was very impressed with the congenial atmosphere of the school.  He said he had heard about the grandeur of DBL from his son.  Now that he was able to be a part of it, it made him happy.  Thereafter, the Principal gave the vote of thanks and the National Flag and School Flag were lowered followed by the dispersal of the students with the expectation of yet another exciting sports meet of the senior school in 2018.
